I’ve got some more songs to add to my inspirational playlist for writing hot sexy love scenes.
If you’re going to get your freak on there’s no better song for it than Macy Gray’s Sex-O-Matic Venus Freak. Yes, that is the name of the song, and it is every bit as awesome as the title implies. “Every time we kiss you bring out the woman in me / every time you holler out my name you set me free.” Superlove, indeed.

(A Supernatural fanvid. AWESOME, even though it’s for Sam and not Dean.)
Speaking of lasting for hours, Junior Kimbrough wants you to Stay All Night. North Mississippi trance blues has some of the most seductive rhythms you’ll ever hear, a steady rolling beat that won’t quit. The guitar work in this song will run through your veins like sweet wine and make you want to get drunk on love.

Hot, sweaty, loud, rock and roll love songs are usually the province of men, but Melissa Etheridge made them all look like boys with I’m The Only One. She lays it all on the line here, and it’s both a plea and a promise. It’s also sexy as hell. Like Van Morrison and Leonard Cohen, Etheridge is singing to adults here, and there’s something desperately romantic about it underneath the ragged vocals.

Fever has got to be one of the hottest songs of all time, and my favorite version is by Elvis Presley. All the bad movies and worse jumpsuits tend to make people forget what a powerhouse voice Presley had, and that he could sing absolutely anything. This song is a sexy reminder that Elvis, his voice, his sex appeal, and his hips probably did as much for female sexual liberation as the Pill.

Here’s one guaranteed to blow your mind: an unauthorized mash-up of Destiny’s Child’s Bootylicious and Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, known as Smells Like Booty. Listening to this blistering hot remix, I have to wonder if it helped inspire Beyonce to take the name “Fierce” as part of her musical alter ego. Because that’s what it is – three minutes of unadulterated fierce sexuality. It transforms both songs into something new, different, and more exciting than the originals, not unlike the joining of two bodies overwhelmed with lust. Be warned – you may not be able to handle this.

One of the sexiest songs I’ve heard in a while is Jace Everett’s Bad Things. This has got to be the perfect song to associate with vampires. It’s the kind of song you’d listen to on a hot humid Southern night when you don’t want to say no to Mr. Right Now when he sidles up and drawls, “I wanna do real bad things with you.” Instead of no, you’re gonna say to Mr. Right Now, oh, hell yes.

Surely with a playlist like this I can be inspired to write some hot erotic romance. Got anymore favorite sexy songs you want to share? Cos when it comes to romance, you can never have too much inspiration.
