12 Days of Sexy Times-Day 10: Allyson Edwards

Who do I turn to for a quick fix of sexy inspiration? That’s a tough question; a few names cross my mind: Angela Knight, Gina Gordon (Don’t be modest girl, you’ve got tons of talent and lots of stories just waiting to be told. I agree with L.K.), Susan Johnson, and last but certainly not least, Lissa Matthews.

Lissa writes real women, who aren’t stick thin, aren’t brainless bimbos, and aren’t perfect. They are intelligent. They are sensual. They all get what they want out of their lives, but they work to get there. They all want hot as hell sex, and the men they want it with aren’t half-bad either (please note the understatement).

I think that my favorite thing about the characters she writes are the way the relationships between the characters form and develop. The women in her stories are strong, confident, and sure of themselves, but they also show a vulnerability that isn’t mentioned very often in the some of the other stories I have read. The men they allow into their lives, and into their hearts, help them to grow and become more confident in themselves, and also more sexually confident and aware.

Lissa writes contemporary, erotic romance. I’m sure she’ll keep writing, and I hope the stories get longer. The first story of hers that I read was called Sugar Rush, and it quickly went from mild interest to severe addiction. She writes everything so vividly, that I can feel everything. I wanted to be Jane, the main character, but more so I wanted Graham, Jane’s love interest. Whew, the man is smoking hot. Read the short excerpt from Sugar Rush and tell me it doesn’t make you want to jump on him. I dare you!

"…He was all tall, tanned skin, rugged hands, and sun-streaked, dark blond hair reminiscent of a surfer. She shook her head. Great, a cowboy surfer. Perfect. Neither of which would ever be interested in her."

"She'd never wanted a man so much in her life as she had wanted him the moment he'd opened the door. His grin was cocky, and his eyes were dark and lustful. His skintight jeans had hugged his hips and hidden nothing, and his soft black sweater defined every muscle in his chest. His feet had been bare and while she'd never paid much attention to a man's feet before, his not being covered by socks or sneakers or boots had been so homey, so casual that she'd found it incredibly sexy. The thought then and now gave her pause. Sexy feet? She'd heard of men loving a woman's painted toenails, but she'd never thought about a man's feet before. God, is this how low she'd sunk? How long it had been for her without her having realized it that not only was she looking at his ass in a pair of jeans and his upper body in a sweater, but she was now thinking a man looked hot and sexy with bare feet?"

The description of not only Graham, but of Jane’s reaction seriously makes me smile. She doubts herself, but at the same time, deep down knows that he’s into her. She’s confident and vulnerable all at the same time, my favorite thing about her. While reading Sugar Rush I felt like I was talking to one of my girlfriends. Lissa writes in such a way that I can relate to each of the women in her stories.

She is also amazing at writing things that push the envelope for some: BDSM, gay sex, anal. She makes it comfortable, not weird or creepy. I’ve read my fair share of erotic, and some authors don’t seem comfortable writing certain situations. Lissa has a gift for empowering the characters and the situations that they find themselves in.

I highly recommend her writing, especially if you’re looking for something in the BDSM realm; she is exceptionally gifted in that area. Sweet Caroline was recently released in this genre, and is “steam up the car windows” hot. (Yes, I know I wrote a cliché, but I don’t care. Just don’t tell my last English professor. Ha!) My favorite is still Sugar Rush. I’d start with that one, and go from there. I’ve read everything she has published, and never regretted a purchase yet. She can be found at www.lissamatthews.com. And on a little side note, she loves to hear from her readers, and she does write back.

I’m Allyson Edwards. I’m not published yet, but I’m currently working on a paranormal, historical, fantasy, erotic novel. (Yes, I know that’s a mouthful.) I want to thank Gina for giving me the opportunity to write on her blog and showing me what it means to have someone in the writing community who shares a common bond. Until I get it up and running with a website and blog, please feel free to e-mail me at allyson@allysonedwards.com
