12 Days of Sexy Times-Day 1: Kate Richards

It’s hard to pick a favorite sexy scene. I’m a huge Laurel K Hamilton fan, who wouldn’t want all those gorgeous weres and vamps waiting at home? Kathleen Woodiwiss was my first romance passion, her The Wolf and the Dove was the first one I ever read and I was totally hooked. And there are so many romantic scenes in other books, hidden stories within non-romances. But I had to pick one, or write all day, so….

Bertrice Small, the Kadin. Another writer ahead of her time, like Kathleen Woodiwiss, her scenes are so sensual that they have stayed with me forever. I was once convinced to sell my copy of this book, worn, torn and read to pieces in a charity yard sale. I should have donated something less valuable, like jewelry maybe. It took a while, being pre-internet book purchasing, but I found another one, and have had it close to me ever since.

Lady Janet Leslie is kidnapped and sold into the sultan’s harem, where she is transformed into the gloriously sensual Cyra. Cyra is beautiful, intelligent, and madly in love with her sultan. When she is draped in jewels and silks and makes her first appearance in his chambers, my heart pounds every time. There is a I can feel the warm desert breezes on my own skin and imagine the iced fruit sherbet they sip to cool their parched lips. It is a heroic tale of a woman who is in the worst circumstance and rises to be a queen, and has a great deal to recommend it. In fact, several other novels are based on the descendents of the characters from this story. But when Cyra begins to crawl from the foot of the sultan’s bed, and he reaches for her, that’s it for me.

I write romances of my own now, and am currently writing a series of stories about couples who meet on the internet. Finally, My Love, to be released by Breathless Press on June 18 is based on when I met my husband. He is my own romance hero, who I met on the internet nine years ago. He can also make my heart pound, and while my story is fiction, it does reflect the passion I feel for him, even after all these years. Maybe my favorite scene will be the one on Friday when he returns from his business trip.

Thanks for having me here, Gina. It’s fun to think of the authors whose writing can make us feel some of the sensuality and passion that they bestow upon their characters. I am also a co-owner of Got Romance Reviews and Got Erotic Romance Reviews, where our reviewers read exciting new romances every day and share their opinions with our readers. Most of our reviewers are actually authors themselves and I believe this gives us a unique perspective. Plus I have an excuse to read! We also feature Got Romance Author Interviews where I understand you will be making a guest appearance soon. See you there!

Kate's second internet love story, Perfect Partners Dot Com, will be released later this year from Breathless Press. To learn more about Kate, visit http://katerichardsshortstories.blogspot.com/

    Hi Gina -
I know now a days, it's not unusual to meet a potential partner over the net. However, when I did it, the internet was in it's infancy and people were totally shocked!

I too, met two of my long term partners over the internet - one in 1988 on Genie (we were together for 8 years b/4 he transgendered.) We still remain close friends.

My present long term partner I met in a chat room in 1995. We are still together, though the relationship has morphed into something platonic since an accident in 2006.

You mentioned Got Romance Reviews and Got Erotic Romance Reviews. Do these review sites only do straight romance?

Or are they up to reviewing good quality plots running along the lines of M/M romance or other alternative lifestyle romance?

  2. George - I am the other owner of Got Romance Reviews and I can say, emphatically, YES, we read all genre of romance. From sweet to GBLT and BDSM. Contact me or Kate Richards at gotromancereviews@gmail.com and we'll get more info to you.

As for Kate Richards' great blog - bravo! I think it's incredibly romantic to meet your mate on the internet. And how is that any different than by blind date or letter? How many couples met through a pen pal situation? Plenty, I'd wager. And although I haven't met Kate's husband, she still glows when she talks about him all these years later. Something must work right if that's the case!
